Hartford Additional Services Overview


1. Overview

Employees enrolled in Hartford insurance benefits (Short‑Term Disability, Long‑Term Disability, or Life/AD&D) automatically receive access to a suite of additional support services. These services are designed to assist employees and their families before, during, and after a claim situation. They include counseling, legal and financial support, will creation tools, funeral concierge services, health advocacy, travel assistance, and identity‑theft support.

These programs are provided at no additional cost to employees enrolled in eligible Hartford benefits.

3. Ability Assist Counseling Services

Ability Assist provides 24/7 access to master’s‑level clinicians for assistance with emotional, legal, financial, and work‑life concerns.

Key Features

  • Three face‑to‑face counseling sessions per issue, per year
  • Unlimited phone consultations
  • Support for: stress, grief, family/relationship concerns, substance misuse, legal and financial questions, and more

Available to employees enrolled in STD, LTD, or Life coverage.


4. Beneficiary Assist Counseling Services

Available to beneficiaries and immediate family members after an employee’s death.

Support Includes

  • Emotional counseling
  • Legal guidance
  • Financial planning assistance
  • Up to five in‑person counseling sessions (three in some states)
  • Unlimited phone support

Available only with Life Insurance coverage.


5. Estate Guidance Will Services

This service allows employees to create a legally binding will online at no cost. It includes:

  • Personalized document creation
  • Online legal resources
  • Guidance for health care directives and other planning tools

Available with Life Insurance coverage.


6. Funeral Concierge Services

Provides comprehensive support before and after a loss.

Services Include

  • Comparison of funeral home pricing
  • Negotiation of funeral expenses
  • Advocacy and support for the family
  • Tools for pre‑planning
  • “Express Pay” benefit delivery to help cover funeral expenses promptly

Available with Life Insurance coverage.


7. HealthChampion Services

Provides administrative and clinical support to help employees navigate medical issues and insurance claims.

Support Includes

  • Assistance with medical billing
  • Help understanding medical statements and coverage
  • Cost estimates and fee negotiation
  • Support preparing for medical appointments
  • Guidance on available treatment options

Available with STD, LTD, and Life coverage.


8. Travel Assistance Services

Available when traveling more than 100 miles from home for 90 days or less.

Services Include

  • Emergency medical transportation
  • Medical referrals and case monitoring
  • Prescription replacement help
  • Assistance with replacing medical devices or eyeglasses
  • Lost luggage/document support
  • Legal referral assistance

Available with LTD and Life coverage.


9. Identity Theft Support Services

Provides 24/7 support to prevent or resolve identity theft issues.

Services Include

  • Guidance on preventing identity theft
  • Help reviewing credit reports
  • Support in notifying credit bureaus
  • Assistance completing fraud affidavits
  • Help replacing credit or debit cards

Available with LTD and Life coverage.


10. When Services Are Available

These support services are available as long as the employee is:

  • Actively insured under an eligible Hartford policy
  • Continuing coverage under portability or conversion (services may vary)
