How to reset your browser's default download location

The purpose of this KB is to walk users through the process of resetting the default downloads location in their browser so that the next time they download an item from the web using their browser, it will go to their downloads folder (C:\Users\Username\Downloads)

Google Chrome

  1. Open Chrome and click on the three dots (menu icon) in the top-right corner.

  2. Go to Settings.

  3. Scroll down and click on Advanced.

  4. Under the Downloads section, click on Change.

  5. Select the new folder you want to use as your default download location.

  6. Click Select Folder.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Edge and click on the three dots (menu icon) in the top-right corner.

  2. Go to Downloads.

  3. Click on the three dots again and select Download settings.

  4. Click Change next to the current download location.

  5. Choose the new folder you want to use.

  6. Click Select Folder.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Firefox and click on the three lines (menu icon) in the top-right corner.

  2. Go to Settings.

  3. Scroll down to the Downloads section.

  4. Click on Change next to the current download location.

  5. Select the new folder you want to use.

  6. Click Select Folder.

Safari (Mac)

  1. Open Safari and click on Safari in the top menu bar.

  2. Go to Preferences.

  3. Click on the General tab.

  4. Under File download location, select the new folder you want to use.

  5. Click Other if you want to choose a different folder.
