How to Schedule a Message in Microsoft Teams

How to Schedule a Message in Microsoft Teams

The purpose of this article is to walk users through the steps of scheduling messages to send in Microsoft Teams at a future date. This is extremely helpful when you plan on being away or Out of Office to ensure communication isn't broken when needed.

Scheduling a Message in Microsoft Teams for a Future Date:

  1. Open Microsoft Teams Desktop App or Web App.

  2. Locate the group, channel or person you wish to send a future message to and open up the chat window like normal.

  3. Begin typing your message intended for a future date.

  4. Once you have completed your message, click the "+" icon. to the left of the send button, then select "Schedule Message":

  5. Select the date/time you wish the message to be sent and click "Continue" to finalize:

  6. If successful, you will see a message above your intended message you wish to send. Double check that the stated date/time in this notification is correct before moving to the next step!

  7. Click "Send"

  8. Your message will then be scheduled to send at the chosen date/time and show a "Sending on" notification in the message to verify that it was not actually sent yet, but instead is scheduled:

Note: The message is stored in Microsoft's Cloud at this point so you're safe to shut down your PC, close Microsoft Teams, close your browser, etc. and it will still send!

  9. DONE!
