Troubleshooting Network Drive issues

Troubleshooting Network Drive issues

The purpose of this guide is to help users troubleshoot issues related to network drive access. Most common issues include inability to access network drives, slow connection/loading of network drive folders and more.

Check Network Connection
  1. Make sure you are connected to a network first and foremost. Sometimes, a known connection will loose connectivity or have issues connecting to the network even if it has worked in the past.
    1. First, try navigating to any webpage like GOOGLE using your preferred internet browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, etc). You may even want to try a few different websites as sometimes your browser can keep a cached version of the site locally so it may still load even if its not properly connected.
  2. If you are not connected, or if you just want to check in your settings to ensure you are connected to the correct network; try following Microsoft's Guide on Network and Internet HERE.

Reboot your PC
  1. Rebooting your PC can help resolve these issues as many devices use Cached Credentials/Connection Settings that need to be restarted sometimes.
  2. If Initial rebooting does not resolve your issues or if you tried this before with no luck, try completely powering down your PC and leave it off for 10-15min before turning it back on.

Check for Updates
  1. Sometimes lacking specific windows updates can interfere with connectivity or cause other network and network drive related issues.
    1. To check for windows updates, type in "Check for Updates" in your windows search bar:

      Then select "Check for updates"

    2. Alternatively, you can follow Microsoft's guide located HERE

Attempt to Re-Sync your PC (Must be on VPN or in-office network)
  1. Sometimes your PC can get out of sync or be lacking some Group Policy updates. If this occurs, this can cause these types of issues. To resolve this type of issue, make sure you are connected to the VPN or the In-Office network then follow the KB linked HERE

If these troubleshooting steps do not resolve your issues, please submit a ticket.
